Elaborate Urban Backyard Design
This custom landscape design transformed a small urban backyard into a functional modern outdoor living space. The homeowners wanted a clean, geometric landscape that complemented their contemporary home while incorporating numerous features—including custom water features, a fire bowl, a paver patio, reflection pool, lawn, and outdoor entertaining areas—without making the space feel crowded.
Every element of this modern landscape design was carefully planned to maximize the limited space. The paver patio creates a focal point visible from both the home and backyard entrance, while the circular fire bowl contrasts with the clean lines of the contemporary pavers. Flowing water features, ornamental plantings, and lawn soften the hardscape to create balance and year-round visual interest.
Additional features include custom rockery, precision concrete work, welded Cor-Ten steel raised planters, drip irrigation, landscape lighting, and a reclaimed stone grain mill repurposed into a striking reflection pool. The result is a unique urban backyard that blends modern design with comfort, functionality, and lasting craftsmanship.
Designing a small urban backyard requires every square foot to serve multiple purposes.
