The clients wanted to compliment and maximize their small inner city lot for their new modern home. Creating a relaxing yet visually geometric look with clean materials and comfortable features was a priority. Many landscape elements were requested for the small space, including two connected water features, a fire bowl, a modern path and patio, a usable lawn area, a reflection pool, and more. It was a challenge to make all of the requested features fit and flow without feeling cluttered.

The patio was positioned in the rear corner, creating a focal point from the backyard entrance gate and visible from the house. The circular shape of the patio and fire bowl juxtapose the rectangular pavers of the pathway, which mimics the meanering stream. Plants and lawn balance and cool the scale of the surrounding hardscapes. This landscape design also included extensive rockery, precise concrete forms, raised Cor-Ten steel beds welded in position, drip irrigation, a gas line, and an old local stone grain mill transformed into a sleek front yard reflection pool—a great enjoyment and conversation piece for friends and neighbors.
