Inviting Backyard Entertainment Space

The client's goal for this residential backyard renovation was to eliminate unusable space and create functional and coordinating entertainment areas for family and guests to enjoy. This included a new layout with a series of hardscape elements, striking landscape features, and complementary plantings. Plus, we preserved the existing lace leaf maple in the landscape as a focal point!

Our landscape design and installation team transformed this inviting backyard into a series of outdoor living spaces while solving significant elevation challenges by creating distinct upper and lower terraces. The project features a large paver patio with multiple gathering areas, a covered outdoor kitchen and bar, a retaining wall that doubles as additional seating, and a terraced fire pit area that makes the most of the sloping site.

To unify the design, we customized the retaining wall system and built matching raised garden beds that complement the hardscape throughout the backyard. The covered outdoor kitchen was carefully integrated with the home by creating a seamless transition between the existing roofline and the new mahogany timber structure, protecting against weather intrusion while preserving the home's architectural character.

The basalt column water feature serves as a striking focal point while filling the backyard with the soothing sound of flowing water. As evening falls, landscape lighting creates a warm atmosphere, with uplighting that highlights the surrounding trees. Beyond being an ideal space for relaxing and entertaining, one of the best features of this landscape is that it's beautiful from every angle—whether you're enjoying it outdoors or admiring the view from inside the home.
