The customer was looking to transform his slopey outdoor space among the forest into a useable yard for his family and son to enjoy, with access all around the yard. The project began with steps and patios along the house. Next, the sport court was created for his son to play basketball, along with access to the court. Walls were needed throughout most of the yard to create flat, useable areas.

Drainage was also a large aspect of this yard—drains were installed behind all the walls and tied into the expansive bioswale. A large rock bridge, sourced and shipped from Montana, was built over the bioswale. Boulders, walls, and a synthetic lawn (now a putting green) were installed on the level below the bioswale in what was formerly a very wet area, allowing for year round use. The customer also requested a shear drop waterfall to create a nice sound that could be heard from anywhere in the backyard and the house. Below the waterfall pond, we created a gravel sitting area with a fire pit and stepping stones.

Throughout the entire yard, we blended block retaining walls with boulders, along with gravel paths and pavers for walkways. Irrigation was installed throughout, using a mix of drip irrigation and sprays for lawn and slopes. One of the last phases involved the installation of plants that would do well under the trees, contend with rocky ground, and thrive among the high deer traffic. Outdoor lights were also installed to enhance each feature of the yard.
