Formal Backyard Landscape With a Secret Garden
This client had long dreamed of creating a classic tranquil garden in her backyard where the family could have a spiritual retreat for reflection and transformation. The dream was over 20 years old and the search for a design/build company was entering its third year, and then Dennis' 7 Dees came through to finally make her dream a reality.
One of the biggest challenges of this landscape design and installation project was solving the property's severe drainage issues. Located at the lowest point of a slope below more than 20 neighboring homes, the backyard collected significant runoff and was left with standing water after every storm.
Our landscape design transformed the property with more than 1,000 square feet of custom patios and walkways, paired with a comprehensive drainage system to protect the new landscape. French drains were installed along the stairs, around the lawn perimeter, and beside the hardscape, directing water into engineered dry wells. Additional drainage behind the natural stone sitting wall helped manage runoff across the property. The result is a beautiful formal garden and inviting outdoor living space that can be enjoyed year-round—without the drainage problems.
