The client wanted to convert their overgrown and unusable landscape into a beautiful outdoor space that he and his family could enjoy year-round. They entertain often, so a space filled with a variety of outdoor activities was high on their priority list, along with safe and convenient access to each level. It proved to be our greatest “Staycation” site we’ve ever created!

The existing backyard was heavily forested with severe slopes, rocky terrain, immoveable large native boulders, and severe drainage issues. The project began with large scale tree removal and excavation of the rocky terrain to create various activity terraces. Belgard paver stairs, retaining walls, paths, and a custom slab rock bridge were designed to create smooth transitions between the unique areas including a Portland Blazer’s themed basketball court, rain gardens, a shear drop waterfall, a fire pit area, and a large putting green. This expansive space includes as many natural materials as possible to blend with the forested surroundings.

Irrigation was installed throughout the landscape, including a mix of drip irrigation and sprays for lawn and slopes. We installed plants that would do well under the trees, contend with rocky ground, and thrive among the high deer traffic. Outdoor lights were also added to enhance each feature of the yard.
