After the crazy 2020 we’ve all experienced, Pantone (a universal language of color) thought we could use two colors for 2021’s “color of the year” and they were absolutely right! The two colors chosen are 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and 13-0647 Illuminating, a color combination that ignites immense feeling. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said:

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

Since 2021 represents a year of hope and new beginnings, there is no better color combination to express that than “ultimate gray” and “illuminating.” To remind yourself of the optimism 2021 brings, here are 3 ways you can incorporate the colors of the year into (and outside of) your home and office.

1. Make Your Houseplants Pop

It’s like Pantone read our minds when they chose this color combination for 2021! We just received a shipment of these brand new yellow and gray plant pots at each of our store locations. Add a little color and contrast to your home and give your houseplants a fresh outfit with Momma Pots.

2. Brighten Up Your Office

Our Urban Plantscapes team loves to design interiorscapes that play with contrast and complementary elements. Using grays and yellows in the office, especially by means of plants, creates an environment that feels inviting to employees. This color combination is grounding, yet optimistic and invigorating, making the office a place for everyone to enjoy.

3. Enhance Your Curb Appeal

Gray and yellow can also be incorporated into the exterior of your home. Our landscape design team has a wide range of plant matter and hardscaping materials to choose from. Add yellow flowers, grasses, or groundcover alongside a stone or cement architectural element like a retaining wall, pathway, or water feature for a wonderful contrast of color and texture. The opportunities are endless!
